Why Delusha Offers 75-Minute EMDR Appointments

Psychology appointments are often scheduled for around 50 minutes, but sometimes having a little more space can be helpful.

At Gemstone Psychology, Registered Psychologist Delusha offers both standard 50-minute appointments and extended 75-minute sessions for clients attending via telehealth.

The longer appointment is simply another option. It is not necessarily better or more appropriate for everyone. Instead, it can provide some additional room within the session for pacing, comfort and stabilisation when the therapeutic work may feel emotionally demanding.

Allowing Space for the Session to Unfold

Every person comes to therapy with different experiences, needs and levels of comfort.

When EMDR forms part of the therapeutic work, the session may involve preparation, discussion, processing and time to notice and respond to what is coming up.

For some people, having a longer appointment can create more space to work at a comfortable pace rather than feeling pressured by the clock.

Delusha works collaboratively with clients and considers what feels manageable and appropriate for the individual.

Time to Feel Comfortable and Safe

Feeling comfortable with the therapeutic process matters.

A 75-minute appointment can provide additional time at the beginning of a session to settle in, discuss how things are feeling that day and prepare for the work ahead.

This does not mean that every extended session will involve EMDR processing for the entire appointment.

Psychological therapy is responsive to the person in front of the psychologist, and the structure of a session may change depending on what is needed on the day.

Additional Room for Stabilisation

EMDR work can sometimes feel emotionally heavy.

One reason Delusha offers the extended appointment option is to allow additional room for stabilisation following therapeutic work where this is required.

Rather than having to move immediately from emotionally demanding work to the end of the appointment, the additional time can create space to slow things down and consider what support is appropriate before finishing the session.

50 Minutes or 75 Minutes?

Delusha offers both:

Standard 50-minute psychology appointments

and

Extended 75-minute psychology appointments

A longer session should not be viewed as clinically superior or more effective than a standard appointment.

The most appropriate session length will depend on the individual, what they are working on and what is appropriate within their therapy.

If you are unsure which option may suit you, this can be discussed with Delusha.
